The Costume Designer collaborates with the Director to design costume(s) to support the Director’s vision for the show. The Costume Designer will work within the budget set for the show and will work closely with the Producer and Director. In consultation with the Director, assist in determining the necessary costumes needed for performances before production dates. Research historical and cultural contexts to ensure authenticity in costume design. Select fabrics and materials and oversee the construction of costumes. Create sketches and renderings of costume ideas. Obtain costumes by purchasing, renting, and manufacturing. Fit costumes on actors and make necessary adjustments. Attend load-in and set-up, dress rehearsals, etc. Attend Technical Week rehearsals – required. Attend production meetings Attend first rehearsal and presents design concepts to the cast. Works within a budget Ensure all costumes are cleaned, returned to storage or if rented return to vendor.
